The new BMW R 12 S

With the BMW R 12 S, BMW Motorrad is expanding its Heritage world with a fitting tribute to the iconic R 90 S, which in 1973 set a sporting exclamation mark for BMW Motorrad in terms of riding dynamics with 67 hp and a top speed of 200 km/h.
The BMW R 12 S will make its market debut at the start of the next motorcycle season.

Racing successes helped the BMW R 90 S achieve an iconic image.

It didn't take long for the image of the R 90 S to benefit from racing successes. For example, during the Production TT on the Isle of Man, where Hans-Otto Butenuth and Helmut Dähne celebrated a class victory in 1976. In the same year, Steve McLaughlin also won the prestigious 200 Miles of Daytona, and his teammate Reg Pridmore became the first AMA Superbike champion in history. For this reason, too, the R 90 S is one of the most sought-after BMW Motorrad motorcycles today, just as it was back then.

The BMW R 12 S brings the spirit of the R 90 S into the here and now.

The new BMW R 12 S embodies more than just the Concept Ninety study model that BMW Motorrad presented in May 2013; it captures the essence of the R 90 S in both its overall concept and numerous details, bringing it into the present with craftsmanship. Building on the R 12 nineT, it represents an
, authentic, and sporty retro motorcycle, incorporating various elements that together form a thoughtful tribute to the R 90 S.

The defining design elements of our R 12 S include the fairing with tinted windshield, the seat with contrasting stitching, and the Lava Orange metallic exterior color as a nod to the legendary R 90 S Daytona Orange from 1975. The design is perfectly complemented by details such as the red inlaid 'S' on the side panels, the red double line, and the brushed and clear-coated aluminum surfaces of the tank and seat cover," explains Alexander Buckan, Head of BMW Motorrad Design,
.

Extensive standard equipment with Option 719 Wheel Classic II, Billet packages Shadow and Shadow II, Headlight Pro, Shift Assistant Pro, and much more.

The BMW R 12 S emphasizes its status as a sporty retro motorcycle with extensive standard equipment. This includes the Option 719 Classic II wheels with spoke rims and shiny, naturally anodized aluminum, in addition to other high-quality components. The handlebars and front fork tubes are finished in black, while the Billet Components of the Billet package Shadow include the ignition coil covers on the left and right, the oil filler cap, and the cylinder head covers with a matte Avus black metallic coating.

The Billet Shadow II package includes the footrest system, including the foot brake and gear levers, the passenger footrests, the handbrake and clutch levers, the covers for the front brake and clutch expansion tanks, as well as the mirrors at the ends of the handlebars.

In addition, the standard equipment includes the Comfort Package, with features such as Hill Start Control, Shift Assistant Pro, heated handles, and Cruise Control. For added safety during nighttime driving, the adaptive cornering lights Headlight Pro provide better road illumination when cornering.

Extensive range of optional factory equipment and Original BMW Motorrad Accessories for personalization.

The BMW R 12 S is based on the BMW R 12 nineT, which means that all accessory products such as titanium exhaust systems, soft bags, or navigation preparation can also be used for this motorcycle. The expressive dynamics of the lines can be further enhanced with the short rear end, which is available as an Original BMW Motorrad Accessory, and the black license plate holder attached to the swing arm.

Additional factory options are also available, such as Tire Pressure Monitoring (RDC), Anti-Theft Alarm System (DWA),
Intelligent Emergency Call, Connected Ride Control, and the digital display with micro-TFT display as an alternative to the classic round instruments.
