BMW Motorrad Concept F 450 GS

With the BMW Concept F 450 GS, which is almost ready for production, BMW Motorrad presents a preview of what a future BMW GS for the A2 license could look like, and gives an idea of how a new model series could position itself between the existing BMW G 310 GS and the F 800 GS / F 900 GS models.

"During the development of the new BMW Concept F 450 GS, our focus was on achieving the best riding characteristics in this segment, combined with strong performance and optimum accessibility, which was essential for us. Riding pleasure on and off-road is a top priority for this A2 BMW GS," says Sepp Mächler, product manager.

Unmistakable BMW GS design.

"The BMW Concept F 450 GS carries the characteristic DNA of the GS family," says Alexander Buckan, Head of BMW Motorrad Design. "We have succeeded in designing the Concept with the sporty, dynamic appeal of our great off-road icon in a particularly compact form."

As with the Trophy version of the BMW R 1300 GS, the color scheme of blue, white, and red with the base color Racing Blue metallic not only stands for the highest performance and quality, but also for the highly dynamic and off-road-oriented character.

Newly developed two-cylinder engine.

The BMW Concept F 450 GS also delivers on its promise of top quality from a technical standpoint. The completely newly developed two-cylinder in-line engine stands out thanks to its unique character and revving ability, partly due to a special ignition sequence that has never been used before. According to the A2 class, this engine delivers a full 48 hp and superior torque even at low revs.

The extremely compact dimensions of the engine, an excellent ratio between cylinder capacity and power, and low weight are the result of innovative solutions and the use of lightweight materials such as magnesium.

Performance: a machine for on- and off-road use.

The BMW Concept F 450 GS also sets new standards in this segment with high-quality technology on the chassis side. "We were able to start from scratch with the development of this vehicle. The goal was to enable outstanding off-road capabilities while also allowing for agile and precise handling on the road. That's why the BMW Concept F 450 GS is equipped with a fully adjustable upside-down front fork and a shock absorber with load-dependent damping, based on technology from rally and enduro racing. Through the targeted use of lightweight construction and other advanced solutions, we have been able to create a sensationally light vehicle that is close to the required minimum weight in the A2 class of 175 kg," says Marc Weber, chief engineer of the BMW Concept F 450 GS.

Various equipment for safety and comfort.

Inspired by its larger sibling, the BMW R 1300 GS, the Concept F 450 GS also sets new standards in terms of safety and functionality in its class. The relevant features range from BMW Motorrad ABS Pro (depending on the angle of inclination) to freely configurable riding modes. With BMW Connectivity on board and the 6.5-inch TFT screen, the motorcycle can be connected to a smartphone and other accessories.

A glimpse into the future.

The question that arises when looking at the BMW Concept F 450 GS is: what can we expect in a production version? Johann Simon, vehicle project manager for the Concept F 450 GS, explains:

"No compromises whatsoever. In line with the highly sporty off-road focus of the Concept F 450 GS, we will implement the bike as closely as possible to this concept. We will only adjust the seat height for better accessibility and easier handling. As an alternative to the cross-spoke wheels (19 inches front, 17 inches rear), lightweight but very strong cast aluminum wheels in the same dimensions are also conceivable."

BMW Motorrad plans to present the corresponding series vehicle in the style of the Concept F 450 GS in 2025.
